Krishi Thotagarike Mela
Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, has organized four days Krishi-Thotagrike Mela-2024 from 18-10-2024 to 21-10-2024 in collaboration with Agriculture department and allied line departments. This was unique mela, organized with the theme“Vikasit Agriculture for Nutritious Food”. The University has seven (7) districts in its jurisdiction namely Shivamogga, Chikkamgaluru, Chitradurga, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Udupi and Davanagere. This Agricultural –Horticultural Exhibition intends to create awareness about the recent development in agriculture and horticulture to farmers of seven districts. This year mela’s specialities are Technology Park, Vegetable and Flower Demonstration Blocks, Integrated Farming System, Drone Technology in Agriculture, Nutritious Food and their importance, Hydroponics, Bee Keeping andInsect World Exhibition, Value Addition in Millets, Cashew Crop Demonstration, Processing and Value Addition, Organic Farming, Mushroom Cultivation, Watershed Management, Post-Harvest Technology. Further Farmers-Scientist Interactionand Consultancies were also organized.
The Krishi-Totagarike Mela 2024 was inaugurated by chief guests namely BekkinaKalmutt Swamiji ShriShriShri Dr.Mallikarjina Murugharajnedra Mahaswamiji Anandapura, Shivamogga District In-charge Minister Shri MadhuBangarappa, Mr. Beluru Gopala Krishna, MLA Shivamogga, Mr. Araga Gnanendra MLA (Thirthahalli), Mrs. Sharadha Purya Naik, MLA (Shivamogga rural), Mrs. Balkish Bhanu, MLC, Members of Board of Management and Officers of the university.
The university honoured the 28 Best Farmers and Farm Women of seven districts falling in the jurisdiction of KSNUAHS Shivamogga who had made significant achievements in the field of agriculture and horticulture. More than 300agri-based companies, institutions, agripreneurs, government and non-government organizations have put up stalls during the mela 2024. Besides, the university also has stalls of Krishi Vignana Kendras, Extension Education Units (EEUs), Farmers Training Institute (FTI), Organic Farming Research Centre (OFRC), Agricultural and Horticultural Research Stations, and other State Agriculture University and Veterinary College, Agriculture and allied state department for popularizing the new technologies and educate the farmers.
During the Krishi-Totagarike Mela 2024, Agriculture farm implements have been showcased and technical bulletins/folders, of crop technologies has been released. Further Farmer-Scientist Interaction was organized by involving scientists of agriculture universities & different institutes and progressive farmers on “Sustainable Areca Farming”, “Vikasit Agriculture for Nutritious Food” and “Spice and Commercial Crops for Economic Security” were organized for the benefit of farmers. More than 2 lakh farmers and other stakeholders participated in the Krishi-Totagrike Mela 2024.
